Welcome to the St Leonard’s College Snowsports page.

The St Leonards Snowsports Program has bene established with the aim of exposing more students to the challenges, excitement and comradery that the alpine disciplines of Skiing and Snowboarding provide. Outdoor Education staff at the college are responsible for the coordination of Snowsports holiday camps and the Snowsports Club, who are able to represent the school at Interschool Competitions.

SNOWSPORTS LEADERS

Congratulations to our 2024 Snowsports Leaders, Cyan van der Merwe and Emmett Wilson. We are confident these two outstanding year 11 students will be able to share their experience and enthusiasm for snowsports with the college community.

SNOWSPORTS CLUB

Each year the College enters a team into the Victorian Interschools Competition. The competition is held at Mt Buller from 19 – 25 August 2024, for all year levels. Parents are required to supervise their child for this event, and organise their own accomodation, transport, food etc. Students are only required on the mountain for the days of their events.

College will enter students according to bookings made, it is the responsibility of parents to check entries via www.vicinterschools.com.au and lift pass orders via email out in July.

Dryland Training

The fitter you are, the longer and harder you can ski / board, the more you can enjoy it, and the less likely you are to injure yourself.  It is also a great way to get to know other members of the Snowsports team.  Community sport / Physical Education have several opportunities for training throughout the year.  Students in Year 7 and above can join the Strength and Conditioning program at the College. See STL Link for information.

Some team bonding events will be organised for those registered for the competition closer to the event. More details will follow.

SNOWSPORTS CAMPS 2024

Years 7-9 Snowsports Camp, Falls Creek, 22 – 25 September, 2024.  *Camp is fully booked – to be placed on a waitlist, please email benjamin.woolhouse@stleonards.vic.edu.au

Enjoy 4 days on the slopes at Falls Creek, including on the mountain accommodation in the beautiful Riparoo Lodge, and a 1.5hr lesson every day with the Falls Creek Snowsports Instructors. This program caters for all levels of experience, from never touched snow to advanced skiier or snowboarder!

Senior School Snowsports Camp, Queenstown, New Zealand. *Camp is fully booked – to be placed on a waitlist, please email benjamin.woolhouse@stleonards.vic.edu.au

In 2024, the College is running a Snowsports tour to New Zealand. The trip is open to Senior School students only. The trip is planned to run over eight days, spending time skiing / boarding at both Coronet Peak and The Remarkables ski resorts, plus time for some other exploration and activities, please see below the proposed itinerary.

All ability levels will be catered for from novice to advanced, with each day on the mountain including a 1 hour 45 minute snowsports lesson.

Dates:  Sunday 30 June – Sunday 7 July 2024.
Accommodation: 7 Nights at Haka Lodge, Queenstown
Indicative Cost: approx. $4500 – $5500. Subject to change.

Package includes:

  • Transport from the College to accommodation (coach from school to Tullamarine airport, direct flights to Queenstown), and transport to all activities on the program.
  • 7 Nights’ accommodation at Haka Lodge, with breakfast and dinner included daily.
  • 2 x days ski/board at Coronet Peak, with 1 hour 45-minute lesson daily.
  • 3 x days ski/board at The Remarkables, with 1 hour 45-minute lesson daily.
  • Skis, Poles and Boots and Helmet or Snowboard, Boots, Wrist guards and Helmet hire daily.
  • One day of tourist activities around Queenstown – a tour of Arrowtown and a visit to Queenstown Skyline for a Gondola and Luge ride.

Students will need to purchase their own meals on flights, and lunches on the mountain.

Terms and conditions of Senior School 2024 NZ Snowsports trip:

  • If minimum numbers are not met, trip will not run.  In this event, a full refund will be issued. The College reserves the right to amend pricing if our supply costs increase between now and the event.
  • If we have more applicants than positions available, all applicants will be placed into a ballot (ensuring a balance of year levels and genders).
  • All applicants will be screened, considering academic efforts, behaviour, and co-curricular involvement (such as attendance at sport), this may include consultation with Heads of Year / Heads of School / Co-curricular Coordinators.
  • Successful applicants will be notified by 1 September 2023, and need to pay a $1500 deposit by 8 September 2023 to secure their place.
  • Deposit is non-refundable.
  • School fees must be fully paid before date of travel.
  • Families are responsible for ensuring passports and any travel permits / visa are valid.
  • No changes to the group package are available.
  • Any excess baggage must be paid by families. This may include skis / snowboard.
  • Final known costs will be confirmed in term 4, balance due by the end of the school year.
  • The Travel Provider reserves the right to alter prices before travel due to exchange fluctuations and other unplanned cost variations. Any unavoidable price variations will be passed on to you at cost as or when they are charged to the College
  • If more than one term’s notice in writing of cancellation – 50% refund (if airline ticket has not yet been issued)
  • If more than one term’s notice in writing of cancellation – 50% plus non-cancellable airline ticket cost (if airline ticket has been issued)
  • Less than one terms notice – no refund.
  • Please see college insurance documents, available on STL link, https://learn.stleonards.vic.edu.au/outdooredextn/ this covers students whilst on the program, but does not provide any cover for any injury / illness prior to the program, that may prevent a student from attending.  We recommend families get their own insurance for this.
