  • An overview of speaker roles
  • Rebuttal activities
  • Methods for debate preparation
  • Tips for presenting to an audience
  • Worked examples of debate topics

Regional Debating Day

Regional debating events are held at various schools across Victoria. These extension programs are an excellent opportunity for students to put their skills to use in ‘friendly’ debates with students from other schools.

The debating days will involve teams from various schools participating in three debates: two prepared topics and one secret topic announced on the day. DAV adjudicators will provide students with feedback after each debate.

State Tournament:

The DAV will hold an annual Primary Schools Debating Tournament in term 4. This round-robin competition aims to introduce students to competitive inter-school debating whilst providing further opportunities to develop their debating skills. After the debates, presentations will be made to congratulate winning teams and the highest scoring speakers.

Each school is able to enter one team to take part in three debates: two prepared topics and one secret topic announced on the day.
