Scaffold – Getting started
Suggested headings and sequence:
- Starting Points: Culture – read, collect images and make notes
- Starting Points: Collaboration – read and choose a collaboration method
- Exploration of personal ideas – social culture context
- Experiment with art techniques, materials, processes and art forms
- Presentation to audience
- Refinement of art techniques, materials, processes and art forms to produce a finished artwork
Some examples of what this can look like:
1. Artform: Printmaking
- Inspiration: Personal interest relating to culture. Could relate to meals, rituals, spirituality, ethnicity or other.
- In pairs.
- Make a small edition of lino prints. Give one print to collaborator (randomly chosen from class).
- Collaborator works on / responds to the print without consulting the original person.
- Share what you create.
- Critique to reflect on and evaluate the process.
- Based on feedback and insights gained, refine and select presentation methods.
2. Artform: Painting
- Inspiration: Personal interest relating to culture inspired by studying or viewing an artist and / or artwork.
- Small groups.
- Collaborative painting.
- Start – each group member creates sketches from original inspiration (artist and / or artwork viewed an art gallery, or an image sourced through research).
- Collaborators work together to combine their designs into one. This becomes the basis for a collaborative painting.
- Critique presented to reflect upon and evaluate collaborative process.
- Feedback from critique is used to resolve, edit and / or select works for display.
