Welcome to the Exam revision page. This page has been updated and ready for 2025 Unit 1 and 2 examinations (Mr Neave’s class).

The Unit 1 examination in May/June 2025 will be in 2 parts:

Part 1: Argument Analysis

You will be given an article to read (with a visual cartoon). You will need to use the detailed essay plan that is on your class page (and also in your class OneNote) to respond to the article. You should write a short introduction, followed by 2 paragraphs focused on the arguments the writer makes, and then one more paragraph about the visual element (cartoon). You then should write a short conclusion which summarises the position of the author.

Part 2: The Crucible Text Analysis

You are asked to write a short essay about INJUSTICE in The Crucible. You should use John Proctor as an example of injustice, and ONE MORE example of injustice in the play. You should memorise a good quotation for John Proctor and a good quotation as evidence for your second example of injustice. You should aim to write a short introduction about the play and it’s connection to injustice in Salem and the McCarthy hearings. Then you should write 2 body paragraphs (one about John Proctor and one about theeach of other example), then you should write a short conclusion that summarises why Miller includes injustice in his play.

The BEST things you can do to prepare for your English exam:

  • Read through the Argument Analysis 2025 booklet – check the essay plan and write an analysis on each of the examples that are inside the booklet (you will also be doing this in lessons)
  • Find the two examples (one about John Proctor) in your book The Crucible that you want to write about in your exam
  • Re-read your essays on The Crucible (that you wrote for your SAC) to remind yourself of the play, and write a practice essay on the theme of INJUSTICE.
