Today we read Act 1 Scenes 1-11. 

Homework: Re-read scenes 1-11. Select relevant quotes to highlight. Focus your thoughts on quotes that reflect important information about the characters or are representative of the central concerns of the play.

To fully understand a piece of literature you need a sound understanding of the CONTEXT. Definition: The set or circumstances which allow the setting for an event, statement or idea (or play, novel…) to be fully understood.

Homework:

You are to become the teacher. Choose one of the four context headings (The Mallee, Pauline Hanson, rural issues, Native title).

Develop a presentation and present and teach the class about this area. Due Monday.

In today’s double, we will finish listening to (and reading) the first story A Temporary Matter in Jhumpa Lahiri’s Interpretor of Maladies. Fill in the ‘Symbols/motifs/Imagery’ table and also the ‘Changes’ table. Be as detailed as possible. You also need to complete a character list of every character mentioned in this short story. Remember, the more information you put down, the better your resources for your SAC.
