Reflecting and Evaluating the Creative Process
Spontaneity vs. Planning

This assessment task requires you to compare your creative processes with the ceramic and oil painting activities, discussing and analysing your different approaches with descriptive explanations. There are three sections for this task.

When evaluating your approaches, always say why, how and where you worked in particular ways. Be descriptive but also concise – that means stay focussed, avoid repetition and waffle.
Use appropriate art language.

This assessment task is highly relevant in the examination at the end of the semester.

Part 1
Research and Exploration Comparison

  • Which approach correlated best with your own creativity; automatism (ceramics) or completing a range of research, exploration and sourcing of images through photography (oil painting)?
  • In which media did you feel your approach to exploring your ideas was more effective for your artworks. Explain why.
  • For each media, what initiated the directions of any research through the process?
  • Did any experiences or reflections along the way lead you to undertake more research?

Part 2
Development and Experimentation

  • Describe and compare the different approaches used to develop your visual ideas for your subject matter and composition of your sculpture and painting.
  • Describe and compare the experimental experiences of the ceramics and oil painting tasks in regards to your feelings of preparation for undertaking your artwork in these materials.

Part 3
