The AMEB is the Australian Music Examinations Board. Most students learning privately at St Leonard’s choose to undertake these exams. There is a ‘syllabus’ for almost every type of musical instrument that contains a mix of technical pieces, scales, accompanied tunes and musicianship requirements (such as aural and theory work). Below are a sample of the Grade 1 low brass materials.

For an AMEB exam you are required to play Technical Work, a “List A” piece, a “List B” piece and a “List C” piece. In addition you need to demonstrate good general knowledge and musicianship. If you can play everything on this page though, you’re very close to ready to complete this exam!
