TLC – Day 7 – Chiang Khong to Pak Beng

Last night we relaxed after dinner in some comfortable hammocks in front of the picturesque Mekong River. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to sleep in the hammocks and had to go back to our rooms.

We awoke early the next morning to confront the difficult task of crossing from Thailand to Laos, this process took over two hours because of the long queues. But it was well worth the wait as we found ourselves on a really comfortable boat that was taking us on a six hour journey down the Mekong River, for this we split into two groups and we travelled on separate boats. On the boats we engaged in various activities such as listening to music, drawing, reading and eating some delicious food. As we have travelled through Thailand and into Laos we have noticed that the food has changed. The food in Laos is less curry focused and nowhere near as spicy but is just as delicious. The food on this trip has been a highlight.

After the long boat trip we arrived at a little town called Pak Beng. There is not much to say about Pak Beng, there is just one Main Street and a great view of the Mekong River. The boys and girls separated into two groups and stayed in separate Guesthouses. We both enjoyed dinner at different restaurants. As we are writing this the boys are just chilling out at our guesthouse and the girls are doing whatever girls do.

Today’s boat trip was a well earned break from all the hard work and long bus rides that we had experienced in the past few days. The big experience has been unreal so far and we can’t wait to experience what’s in stall for us next.
