Our day started in a home stay along the Mekong delta where we had a quick breakfast before a long bike ride around local paths and streets. We crossed many bridges and narrow paths along the spiderweb-like network of rivers and streams.
We then packed our things and hopped on a boat to visit the floating markets. After the visit of the historical markets we entered a candy store where learnt how their products were made. Candies included sesame seed and peanut crackers, coconut toffee and puff rice and their methods and techniques of products.
We then travelled on a bus back to Saigon, Arriving back at Ho Chi Minh city, the group was relieved as we were back in a place where showers were cleaner and the beds were nicer. After freshening up we walked to the oldest cathedral in Vietnam built by the French in 1887. Just across the road from the old cathedral was another historical building built by the French to be a train station. After a change in city layout plans they turned it into a post office building heavily influenced by French architecture.
After the historical experience the group headed to the restaurant ‘Koto’ which is a charity to assist underprivileged youths by training them to be waiters and waitresses so that these poor people will have a brighter future. The food in this reasonably expensive restaurant was very tasty. Following dinner, we made our way to the Ho Chi Minh night market filled with clothes, shoes and other fashion accessories. About an hour later the group walked back to the hotel to prepare for the amazing race the next day.
