Australia – Walkathon

On Wednesday the 12th of August, the year 9’s participated in a 27km fundraising walk to raise money for our Big Experience trips in November. The money raised will be used for the community service projects that we will be completing in our respective countries. I was not able to participate in the walk but I volunteered and helped out at the end of the walk by assisting in setting up the sausage sizzle.

As I saw my classmates walk up the main driveway of the school grounds, I saw everyone smiling and were happy with what they had just completed. Everyone who did the walk should feel extremely proud of what they have achieved and know the difference that they will make. The walkathon (which was also very good preparation for the year nine hike) was a great way for everyone to get to know each other. This small sacrifice from us will make a world of difference for the communities we visit.

We gathered at Seaford Pier and waited in excitement to set out! Everyone was ready in the morning because for most of us this was our first ever walkathon. We chatted while walking along the beach and it was fun because as a new student, I learnt a lot about St Leonard’s and my classmates. Everyone was nice and I couldn’t wait to be friends with all of them! As we continued to walk I began to realise just how far we had to walk…

…We were finally on South Road and some of us started running towards the school gate (well really towards the BBQ). At the end of the day, on my way home, I was really happy. This is the beginning of a great adventure – Big Experience, here we come!
