Fireflies have landed in Melbourne…

Dear families of our Borneo fireflies,

I am pleased to say that our staff and students are on home shores. We expect to greet them at the South Rd entrance of the College around 11.45am-12.00pm. Looking forward to seeing you there to welcome them home.

Vietnam RED and YELLOW settled and happy…

Dear families of year 9 students,

After much anticipation and a big travel day the students have been reported by our staff to be “going really well, all happy and ready to investigate”. Also, they have let us know that it has continued to stay dry in Hanoi, “no sign of rain or any aftermath” of the storm.

We will continue to monitor things but you can now hear from the students themselves as they post news and photos of their first day of their adventure.

Landed in Hanoi

Dear families of our year 9 students,

Our Vietnam RED and YELLOW travellers have landed in Hanoi and staff report that all are in great shape.

The good news is it is 24 degrees and not currently raining in Hanoi!

The storm system of typhoon Haiyan has reached southern China and has been down-graded to a tropical depression. Over the coming days, there will still be solid rain falls and possible flash flooding in parts of the central and eastern Provinces of Vietnam.

If there are to be any changes to the itinerary we will inform you as this information comes to hand. At this stage the tour is to go ahead as scheduled.

We thank you for your patience throughout what we understand has been an anxious time for many.

Red and Yellow safely at Singapore airport and scheduled to continue

Dear families of our year 9 students,

We have received word that both groups travelling to VietnamĀ have landed in Singapore andĀ are well after a restful flight. They have a 4 hour wait in Singapore airport before boarding flight SQ 176. You are freely able to check the status of this flight on the Singapore airlines website.

Unfortunately it seems that our media is somewhat behind in its reporting. Many people have been evacuated from the eastern and north east, low lying and or coastal areas of Vietnam, but this largely occurred Saturday as the storm did make landfall yesterday.

When looking at the tracking of the storm, it has been significantly downgraded to a Category 1 and experts are predicting that it will continue to head north into southern China by late afternoon today. Our tour operators inform us that they are experiencing heavy rain in Hanoi. The airport is still open and it is business as usual. Our information suggests that this is a common occurrence in the city of Hanoi in this type of seasonal weather.

We will keep you posted as we receive word of the Red and Yellow groups boarding the next flight and landing in Hanoi.
