Latest information regarding Typhoon Haiyan…

Dear families and students of year 9,

As you may know the storm reached central east and north east Vietnam early this morning local time. Our sources in Hanoi have been advised that the storm is currently 200km away of Hanoi. Reports state that it has lessened in strength and will be headed north, towards southern China and Hong Kong in the next 24-48 hours.

Hanoi airport is running as usual as is Singapore. The flight our students are scheduled on departs Melbourne with a transfer in Singapore before landing in Hanio. Naturally this means that we will be flying west and entering Vietnam form the central western side of the country, avoiding any possiblitly of being near the South China Sea.

With sadness about the potential devestation this has caused to many many people in the Phillipines, the best information we have is that the worst is over. It has been reported that by Monday morning, Vietnam is predicted to be expreiencing tropical storms of heavy rain and 110-40kph winds, with heavier gusts.

We will be departing as scheduled on flight SQ218 to Singapore. Students should make sure they have packed a good raincoat and we look forward to seeing them at the South Rd Gates by 9pm.

Dear families and students of year 9,

We are continuing to monitor the situation currently in the Phillipines. Our information has not changed significantly since the last post. As the storm travels towards the South China Sea it is predicted to reach Hue, Vietnam by midday Sunday.

We will watch very closely what unfolds in the next 24 hours and advise of any changes to our plans. We anticipate to depart as scheduled Sunday evening. Please continue to watch the blog for any further information.

Response to ‘super-storm’ reported in the news today

Dear families and students of year 9,

We are aware of the bad weather and typoon warning currently over the South China Sea. It is reported to be affecting the Phillippines at present and projected to travel towards Vietnam by Sunday. The other South East Asian Big Experience destinations have not been included in the path of this storm.

The information we have received from our operators on the gound is that this should have little to no impact on the running of our tours, given our itineraries. All should go ahead as planned at this stage. The storm is predicted to downgrade as it travels.

Please be advised that we will keep you informed should the situation change.
