Year 9 Exam – 2025
The exam is in two parts.
Part 1 consists of 2 short answer questions on a short passage from Animal Farm by George Orwell. Students analyse the language and themes of the text. (10 marks)
Part 2 is an analysis of a scene from Arrival. You will be provided with 8 panels from a short scene. There is only one question to answer. (20 marks)
SOME TIPS
•1- Be very clear about the concept being shown in each question.
•2- Refer directly to the stills from Arrival and the passage from Animal Farm but also refer to other examples in the film and novella. Don’t be limited by what is provided for you.
•3- In your revision make sure you can identify C.A.M.E.L.S. in Arrival.
•4- Collect useful vocabulary (metalanguage) which helps to clarify your thoughts.
•5- Read and answer exactly what the question is asking you. Don’t just write down everything you know…
