Cocurricular Music Program – Ensembles

The St Leonard’s College cocurricular music program exists to enrich the musical experience of all members of the community whether by enhancing and enriching the learning experience of music students or by providing the musical accompaniment to significant events such as fairs, church services, ANZAC services, Speech Nights, festivals or tours. All rehearsals for cocurricular groups take place outside of normal curriculum times either before school, lunchtime, after school or on weekends and holidays. Core ensembles and auditioned ensembles are listed below:

Bands

Symphonic Wind Ensemble (years 10 to 12) – auditions open to advanced players of woodwind and brass in Years 7 and 8

Choirs

Jazz Choir (years 9 to 12)
Senior Vocal Ensemble (years 10 to 12)

  • Big Band 1
  • Big Band 2
  • Big Band 3 (years 6 to 10)

Orchestras

  • String Maestros (Prep- year 4)
  • Heartstrings (Core string ensemble years 5-9)
  • Symphony Strings (Core string ensemble years 5-12)
  • 5/6 Chamber Ensemble (Auditioned ensemble years 5-6)
  • 7-9 Chamber Ensemble (Auditioned ensemble years 7-9)Senior string quartets (Auditioned ensembles years 8-12)
  • Senior Chamber Strings (Auditioned ensemble years 9 to 12)
  • SLSO (Symphony Orchestra) (Core auditioned ensemble years 7 to 12) – auditions open to advanced string players in Years 7 and 8
  • Guitar Maestros (Prep- year 4)
  • Middle School Guitar Ensemble (Years 7-9)
  • Senior School Guitar Ensemble (Years 8-12)
