Cellist Imogen Manins was trained by the great Nelson Cooke and graduated in 2002 from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Masters of Music Performance. She now moves freely from classical repertoire to contemporary and improvised genres. In 2008 Imogen produced and performed on the APRA award winning trio recording ‘Under the Tall Trees’ (ABC) which led to several successive years of concert series at the Melbourne Recital Centre collaborating with many renowned Australian musicians. Subsequent CD releases include ‘Is it Spring Yet?’ (Hush Music Foundation), ‘The Cello & the Mockingbird’ and the compilation of live recordings ‘Such A Sky’ (Move Records).
Imogen performs as a freelance orchestral and chamber musician and is a guest artist on many recordings. She is currently working on an album of original music which combines her enthusiasm for classical and improvised musics. Imogen has been teaching cello for over 20 years, using both Suzuki and traditional methods, to beginners through to university level cello students. She currently teaches across both primary and secondary years at St Leonard’s College.
