Term One
We begin the next stage of our secondary school English journey by exploring the media through the conceptual lens of communication and perspective. We unpack how different media texts communicate their perspective and what techniques are used to express the viewpoints raised. This exploration will culminate in students analysing media texts and using the skills they have gathered to participate in a topical debate.
Term Two
In Term Two, we will move to exploring and analysing poetry to form a perspective on what the concept of Home means, to different people, in different times and in different places. We unpack how poets use various forms and literary techniques to express a viewpoint. This exploration will culminate in students analysing and creating poetry to express their own point of view.
Term Three
In Term Three, we continue our study of text, as we explore the art of short fiction. This study will focus on the concept of Coming of Age and we use a selection of short fiction to consider and investigate the transformative power of physical and emotional growth.
Term Four
The year will end with our first extended novel study of the year. This study will focus on the concepts of time and redemption as we use the chosen novel to explore and investigate the transformative power of generosity and compassion.
