Sarah Nieuwkerk is a passionate conductor, performer and educator. She graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Masters in Music majoring in Performance Teaching in 2014.

Sarah has toured Europe twice with the Chamber Strings of Melbourne as a soloist and core player and has toured China with the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic in 2013-2014 and again in 2018-2019. Sarah is currently Associate Concertmaster for the newly formed Australian Discovery Orchestra and regularly performs for theatre, TV and in orchestras across Melbourne.

Sarah has previously taught at Overnewton College and Carey Baptist Grammar school and has conducted various String Orchestras for State Music Camp.

Choral Auditions for 2023/24

  • Participation in a core ensemble is compulsory for everyone in an auditioned choir.

Vocal Ensembles

  • Auditioned vocal ensembles are available for students from Year 6 – 12 (current Year 5-11 students)
  • These ensembles will sing a mix of repertoire, from including some contemporary, pop, musical theatre, and classical.  
  • Term 4 rehearsals: Wednesday before school (7.20am – 8.20am)

Audition Requirements 

Auditions will be held in Week 9 of Term 3 at the following times:

Current Year 7-11 students wishing to be in the Vocal Ensembles:  Monday 4th September (after choir) and Wednesday 6th September, 7.20am.  Sign up sheets will be on the Singing Noticeboard upstairs in the Music School.  You’ll need to sing approximately 1 minute of a song of your choice, unaccompanied.  You will then complete some part singing exercises and ear tests.

Current Year 5/6 students wishing to be in the Vocal Ensembles: Wednesday 6th September, 1pm (lunchtime)

Current Year 9 students wishing to audition for the Vocal Ensembles: Monday 2nd October (Term 4, Day 1), after choir (4.30pm). You’ll need to sing approximately 1 minute of a song of your choice, unaccompanied.  You will then complete some part singing exercises and ear tests.

Jazz Choir

The Jazz Choir is an auditioned ensemble for singers who are interested in singing jazz harmonies and extending their improvisation skills. Jazz Choir rehearses on Friday mornings at 7.20am.
 
Auditions for the Jazz Choir are open to students in Year 9 – 12 (2024).
 
Auditions will be held at 7.20am on Friday, 6th October (first week of Term 4).
 
Students are asked to prepare a vocal piece of their own choice (an excerpt of approximately 1 minute is perfect) and Ms Milne will also teach you a short excerpt by ear, and then check your harmony singing skills.

Bands Concert

In 2021 the Bands Concert will be held in the Leonardian Centre.

This concert features extended programs from each of the Core bands and many ensembles.

Performing ensembles will include:
