This term we study Taika Waititi’s film, “Hunt for the Wilderpeople,” allowing students to delve into the theme of identity and belonging through the journey of a rebellious young boy named Ricky Baker and his unlikely bond with his foster uncle, Hector. As they navigate the rugged New Zealand wilderness together, Ricky and Hector’s experiences challenge traditional notions of family, home, and self-discovery. Through their adventures, students analyze how both characters grapple with their identities and sense of belonging in society, ultimately highlighting the complexities of human connections and the search for a place to call home.
