The Year 9 program is carefully structured to further students’ personal development and outdoor skill set. Students will spend 5 days journeying through the Great South West National Park on foot and most groups will complete part of the trip travelling by canoe too. Students carry everything they need for the week, camping in lightweight hiking tents in a different campsite each night.

Students will be cooking in small groups, and have to plan for, buy and prepare their own meals for the whole program. Outdoor Education staff will cover what is appropriate food to hike with in preparation sessions in the lead up to camp.

The camp forms part of the CUE program, where environmental issues explored within the program are expanded and brought out into the field.

Day 1 of this program is a packing day at school. Students will meet their Outdoor Leaders who will be with them for the week, who will take them through the packing list, how to pack their packs, and distribute group gear such as tents, stoves etc. Food will also be checked thoroughly. The group will also spend some time getting to know each other and their staff. Attendance at the packing day is compulsory.
